During the Civil War, swords were used as a badge of office for Army officers and non-commissioned officers. This is no different for the Texas Civil War Living History Institute. Our swords are authentic reproductions of the actual articles. Just as in the Civil War, they are used a symbol; they are to be seen, not fought with. They are made and kept dull, and are not used to strike at anyone or anything. Above all, they mark the wielder as one with great authority and great responsibility.
