uniforms

Our uniforms are authentic reproductions of the clothing worn by Civil War soldiers. Uniforms also include boots, blankets, and ground cloths. The Institute keeps a stock of uniforms on hand to loan to new participants. Institute members purchase their own uniforms through the Institute and are responsible for their cleaning and upkeep.

To see the cost of uniforms as well as our other prices, go to our Dues and Fees page. For tips on how care for your uniform, go to the Care and Cleaning page. Below you will find a complete list of all items included in an Institute uniform set.

To ensure a proper fit, soldiers must complete our sizing chart, to be turned in along with your paperwork.

Any other historical clothing to be used at Institute events will be permitted so long as it conforms to Institute regulations. Institute officers reserve the right to enforce uniform regulations in order to preserve historical accuracy.

Recruits using Institute loaner uniforms will return their uniforms prior to leaving each event. Any Institute members that find they have a need to borrow from the stock of loaner uniforms may do so, so long as the requested article is not needed by a recruit. However, according to regulations, the soldiers "pay" will be deducted accordingly.
